Camping as a Family of 3

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

We started our 4th of July having breakfast with my family up Millcreek Canyon. It's always fun to see my nieces and nephews with Sage. She is loved! After we had breakfast we watched the grandkids play in the river. Sage even got her feet wet! She didn't like it very much, a little to cold for her baby toes.

Over the past couple days Matt had been talking about wanting to get out and go camping. I was a little hesitant to camp with a 2 month old, but I knew how much Matt wanted to go so I gave in. We loaded up Matt's 4runner and headed up Mirror Lake Highway. I am so grateful for such a prepared husband. He did all the packing and made sure we had more then we needed. It always makes me smile to listen to him go through his mental check list.

We pulled off on this dirt road just off the highway, and drove 15 miles on this crazy bumpy road! Sage normally screams in the car, but I think she was enjoying all the bumps. Matt kept telling me to check on her, he was afraid her head was bobbing around back there! She slept the whole time.

We then pulled up to this big filed of grass with this beautiful lake in the middle, and trees surrounding the open filed. We were able to drive right down to the lake and camp. We started setting up camp while Sage was still happy to be in her car seat, but when we went to get her out, she had a little treat for us!

She had a major blow out! Who knows how long she had been sitting in this. It was all over her! It was a memorable way to start out this adventure.

The bugs were insane! I was so concerned about Sage getting eaten alive so I quickly bundled her up while Matt started a fire and got dinner going. She looked so silly but she didn't get a single bug bite!

We all slept in the back of the car. It was nice and warm and a little more comfortable then sleeping in a tent. I was so worried about how our night was going to be with Sage sleeping in between us, but to my surprise, she did great! She slept through the night! Matt and I didn't sleep great but all the matters is Sage did.

That morning we were able to fish a little. I strapped Sage in my pack and fished for an hour or so while she slept. I wish I could say I caught a fish but I didn't. Still learning how to fish with a child on my chest! After feeding Sage I was able to get her to fall asleep again so me and her took a nap in the car while Matt went back out fishing. He caught 5 or 6 fish. We then had lunch and packed up and headed home.

I had very little faith in this adventure being a positive experience but I was proven wrong. It ended up being great! I am so glad I have a husband that loves the outdoors and is teaching me to love it as well. He is very patient with me, yet gives me a little push at times. And I am so grateful that our little girl is such a good happy baby so that these adventures can be positive ones! I love my little family!

I think I will keep them!
